file preparation tips & guidelines

ACCEPTED FILE FORMATS
We accept the following file formats: .TIF, .JPG, & .PDF. To submit another document type, multiple documents, or a large document >40MB, please compress and upload as a .SIT or .ZIP file.

Tip: When saving TIFF files, do not use LZW compression. Although JPEGs are generally acceptable, they are a form of lossy compression. Make sure you save your JPEG at the highest quality setting. When working on an image file, try to save to jpg only once, since file quality degrades each time a file is opened and saved in this format. If sending a PDF file, be sure to save the file properly because we will have limited ability to change what you give us. In general, you should save a pdf so that it contains the resolution of your original file and does not compress the images as jpegs. When applicable, also make sure to include your document fonts, convert them to outlines, or embed them in your file.

IMAGE RESOLUTION
Please use the best quality setting on your digital camera or scanner, and ensure that your image resolution is between 150 dpi to 300 dpi at actual print size.

Tip: As a general rule of thumb, you can determine the largest print size (in inches) suitable for your image by dividing the pixel height and width of your image by 100. For example, if your image is 1024 pixels by 768 pixels, then the maximum recommended size it should be printed at is 10.24 inches by 7.68 inches. Any print size smaller than this will avoid pixelation on the canvas print.

CROPPING & BLEEDS
Please crop your images to match the output size and aspect ratio of the 4-ft wide x 6-ft tall canvas sail. Your artwork will be printed at full bleed, meaning that the edges of the image will extend to the edge of the canvas sail. There will be no border around the image - UNLESS the image is submitted with a pre-formatted margin. Files that are of a different aspect ratio than the specified canvas size will be cropped to match the dimensions required. In such cases, cropping of the original image length and/or width may occur.

COLOR MODE
The recommended color profile for submitted files is RGB. If an image is provided with a different color profile than RGB such as CMYK the production system will likely convert images to RGB. If you want your file to print in true black and white, please destaturate your image file of all color or convert its color mode to Grayscale prior to upload. Without desaturation, an RGB image that may appear black and white will likely print with a slight color tone.

ARTWORK MANIPULATION
All files should be submitted in 'print ready' format - meaning that they must be in proportion, at a printable resolution, and meet all other image preparation criteria listed above. dVider will print your artwork as provided. Any special image processing requirements, such as cropping, rotating, resizing, sharpening, red-eye reduction, or color correction, should be addressed prior to upload.
